We are planning on meeting in person at the Irvington Library for the rest of the year unless the Covid situation would change.

Meeting Minutes

Present at the June virtual meeting were Andrea, Ann C., Katie, Jude, Maggie, Elena, Joan and Julie W.

Show and Tell

Katie showed a paperclay doll in progress, with a sculpted body and head.  Could it be a Poe Challenge doll?  We will have to wait and see.

Ann C. is repairing a vintage crocheted afghan for a friend.  It's a bigger job than it seemed at first, but the rose blocks are very pretty.

Joan showed  some beautiful cartonnage boxes she had made for a friend with dividers made with adorable dog fabrics.  

Andrea showed her beginning bobbin lace samples from her week at the John C. Campbell Folk School.  She had planned to go last year, but classes had been cancelled and rescheduled for this year.  Her samples were amazing!

Elena showed a wonderful sitting clown doll.  We are hoping we can talk her into telling us her secret to getting him to sit so well.

Julie W. showed her cute doll made by Elena and given to her on World Doll Day.

Several of our members were excited to be going to Danville, IL for a retreat at Threads of Time the end of June.  This would be their first time being together since the beginning of Covid.

Business Meeting

There was more discussion  in reference to altering the name of our club.  This will be discussed further at future meetings.

Meeting Minutes

Present at the May virtual meeting were Andrea, Julie W., Katie, Ann C., Maggie, Martha, Jude, Barbara, and Joan.

Show and Tell

Barbara showed her Marie Antoinette doll (headless of course) made with silk and ribbon embroidery.

Maggie showed a doll she had made from an old magazine pattern.  Her cat stole the show and got everyone's attention.  Maggie said it's the cat's house and Maggie just lives there!

.Andrea showed some tatted earrings she had made.

Katie has been busy making some original clothing she designed.

Ann C. had made some custom table runners and place mats.

Martha showed a quilt she had finished.

Business Meeting

There was some discussion of changing the name of our club to include other media used in dollmaking in addition to cloth and the fact that we are art doll creators.  There will be more discussion at future meetings when more members can attend hopefully in person.

 We will not be meeting in person at the library in June as the library is closed to celebrate "Juneteenth Day".  So if Covid cooperates we will have our first in person meeting July 17 at the library. The Button Challenge doll is now scheduled for July.

June 12, 2021  World Doll Day

Elena and Julie W.

Elena and Julie W. got together at Elena's home on World Doll Day and exchanged their doll creations.  It was a wonderful relaxing evening, mostly spent inside do to the heat, but Elena's beautiful patio was too inviting to resist and they enjoyed tasty treats and wine in the evening shade.

Meeting Minutes

Present at our virtual April meeting were Andrea, Joan, Ann C., Elena, Julie W. Barbara, Katie, Martha, and Jude.

Show and Tell

Martha showed us her kitty cat quilt top she has made which will be quilted and given as a Christmas gift.  

Barbara finished Hyacinth that she had given us a preview of last meeting.  This is one of a series of dolls she is making as part of her Garden Girls Collection.  She also showed her beautiful Rose doll and a preview of  Violet in progress. Barbara will be retiring from her day job the end of June so she will have more time to concentrate on her love of doll making.  How exciting, Barbara!

Katie finished "In the Pink" a doll she made taking a class with Ankie Daanen.  This is an exquisite doll made from paperclay with very detailed costuming.  Great job, Katie!  Katie also gave us a preview of another doll she has started using Styrofoam as a base for the head.  Katie was experiencing technical difficulties so we didn't get to hear more about what she is doing.  To be continued in May!

Meeting Minutes

Present at the March virtual meeting were Andrea, Elena, Sue, Virginia, Julie W., Katie, Ann C., Jude, Maggie, Barbara, Martha and Joan.

During Show and Tell Elena showed two dolls she had made.  They are so adorable, made with cloth over clay faces.

Sue has been busy and staying on task completing one doll a month.

Katie has been enjoying her online class with Ankie Daanen in which she is making a doll with paperclay.

Barbara completed a beautiful Greek doll named Penelope after a character in the Odyssey as well as her dog Argos.

Joan completed a cartonnage box she made in a free class from Colorway Arts.

Business

Andrea gave us the good news that our annual Holiday Art Fair and Art Doll Show is scheduled at the Irvington United Methodist Church on November 20, 2021!  Thank you Maggie for making the arrangements for this to happen!  Plans are also in the works for our annual Christmas Party in December.  Virginia and Sue are in charge of planning the party.  There will be a gift exchange for those who wish to participate.  The theme of the party and gift were discussed.  

Barbara informed us that June 12th is the 35th anniversary of World Doll Day which is celebrated on the second Saturday of June each year.  Many celebrate the day by giving a doll to someone.  Barbara is thinking of  organizing something for our June meeting for the celebration.
