March Birthdays

Colleen and Julie W. celebrate birthdays this month.  Have a happy day!!!

Meeting Minutes

Present at the February meeting were Julie G., Deb, Julie W., Jude, Ann C., Anita, and Leslie.  Deb was our nametag winner.

Show and Tell

Anita brought a favorite doll of hers which she had purchased several years ago in Arizona.  This guardian spirit doll was made by doll artist Gretchen LimaWood.  What a wonderful find, Anita!

Julie W. shared a website for another doll club in Texas, The Texas Association of original Doll Artists.  This is a group of amazing doll artists.  It is definitely worth checking out their website.

Deb brought a doll she has made depicting a character she met at one of the festivals she had gone to.  She made her "Clock Work Clown" from a Snippet pattern by dollmaker Julie McCullough.  The character she met teaches children to juggle.

Business
Outreach chairman Leslie gave us some information on our May joint meeting with Doll Circle of Indianapolis who will host this year.  The meeting will be on May 9th at The Wheelright in Boggstown, IN.  This will include a pitch-in salad luncheon, program by the host and show and tell.

April 11-12 we will have our spring workshop with Amy Felske and her Wise Woman or Goblin.  Jude is sending out prework instructions from Amy.

Our Round Robin Doll project starts at the March meeting.  Those participating will bring a completed naked doll body in a bag to exchange with another participant.

Program

Our program was presented by all members sharing their favorite tips and tools for dollmaking.

Ann C. and Julie W. both like a turning/stuffing tool such as the one pictured.

Jude brought several of her favorites:  tiny metal turning tools, felting pens, Karen Buckley scissors.  She also likes a product called Thread Magic which is applied to thread to minimize breakage and smoother application and John James Long Darner needles.

Deb loves her tube turners like the ones pictured and likes beeswax for strengthening thread.

Leslie loves the Barbara Willis stuffing forks that come in two sizes.  Her tip for dollmaking is to stuff, stuff, stuff, and stuff some more.  A tip she learned from doll maker Mimi Winer who sadly passed away several years ago.  Leslie also likes her arthritis gloves, and hemostats.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting is March 21, 2026, at the Irvington Branch Library at 10:00 a.m.  Our meeting room is on the right upon entering the library. The subject of the program will be doll joints.  Members are encouraged to bring samples of dolls with different kinds of joints they have made and we will discuss them.
