Show and Tell

Our program for this month was about rag dolls so a few of our members brought their rag dolls.

Kathryn brought a cute little guy from her collection.

Kathryn's rag doll

Leslie has a VERY large collection of rag dolls and brought a whole bag full of them to show us.  The following pictures are all her dolls.

Andrea brought the following three dolls for us to see.

Program

This meeting's program was presented to us by Deb Martin on the Rag Doll and its history. She told us these dolls are called rag dolls because they were stuffed with rags when being made. Deb and her husband travel the country going to colonial reenactment events where she shows attendees how the dolls are made and their history.  She also goes to schools and teaches children about the rag dolls.  The dress Deb wore for the presentation was one she made and is appropriate for the time period when these dolls were first made. She shared information about the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont where dolls of this type are displayed. This was an excellent presentation.  Deb was very informative and interesting to listen to.  Thank you, Deb, for coming to present to our group!

Amy Felske's Book Dragon Class

Amy Felske Book Dragon

A few of the Indy Art Doll Makers recently took a class with Amy Felske on making her Book Dragon.  Two days of class ended in close completion of these adorable dragons reading their books.  Amy did a wonderful job showing some clever techniques in making it.  Following are pictures from the class in no particular order.  Look for future blog posts with completed dragons.  Thank you, Amy, for a fun weekend!
