December Birthdays

December seems to be quite a month for birthing dollmakers!  Happy Birthday to Sue, Leslie, Ann C., Pat, and Jude!

Meeting Minutes

There was no official meeting in November as that was our annual Art Doll Show and Holiday Art Fair.  It was a great day with many visitors including past members of our club!  It was great to see everyone enjoying our dolls and doing a little shopping from our member tables. Visitors were invited to vote for their favorite Challenge doll and People's Choice.    Here are more pictures from that fun day.

21st Art Doll Show and Holiday Fair

Our 21st Art Doll Show and Holiday Fair was a success.  We had many visitors, some new and some repeat from past years.  We so appreciate you all coming this year and hope you will come again next year.

You all voted for your favorite dolls, and you are probably wondering who the winners are, so here they are!

Ann C. won the Weather Challenge with her "Rain, singin' in the . . . " She did a fantastic job creating the doll as well as the whole display with the light post.  And if you could only see Gene Kelly's face up close.  It is so realistic; the picture does not do it justice.

Ann C. also won the People's Choice Award with her "Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds".  Again, she has captured the character's face so well.  We are so happy for Ann winning both these awards.  She is a true doll artist!

More pictures of the Fair will be posted at a later date.  Please check back to see the other entries and pictures of the show.

Nominees

President - Andrea

Vice-President- Julie G

Treasurer-Awesome Jude

Publicity-Ann C.

Party Planning and Charity Project-Sue and Virginia

Outreach-Ann R. and Leslie

Show and Sale still needs a chairman and Secretary/Newsletter.  Previous officers will be happy to train and help the new person.

Discussed were the possibilities for charity projects.  One suggestion is a silent auction for this year and next year possible polar fleece blankets to donate to a worthy cause.

Also discussed was having another open house tribute to a noteworthy doll maker in 2024 like we did earlier this year for elinor peace bailey.

Sue and Virginia are working on final details for our Spring 2024 doll workshop to be held April 27-28.  Amy Felske has a felt dragon that she could teach us.  Her work Incipient Madness may be seen on Facebook.

Program

Sue gave an excellent presentation on making Japanese Cloth Flowers

Sue and Virginia gave us kits so we could all sew along.  This was so much fun, and we all were able to make a completed flower following Sue's excellent instruction.

Can you guess whose hands you see?

Sue shared some very good reference books that may be available in your local library.

Next Meeting

For our October meeting, Leslie will be demonstrating how to make Rolled Fabric Dolls.  Leslie is making all-inclusive kits for us, so you don't need to bring any supplies.
Our next meeting is October 21, 2023, at the Irvington Branch Library at 10:00 a.m.  Our meeting room is on the right upon entering the library.
