2019 Holiday Art Fair and Art Doll Show

2019 Holiday Art Fair and Art Doll Show

The 2019 Show and Sale has come and gone.  What a fabulous day it was!  Many people came to see what the Indy Cloth Dollmakers are all about.   Many stopped at Andrea and her Mom's Tatting Table where they demonstrated their intricate way of shuttle tatting.  Our display table showcased many dolls including our Margot dolls, Patti Culea dolls, dolls from AFICC classes, owls,  and others made by members this past year.

Barbara's Dragon Nursery was a hit and we are so glad she came to share it with our visitors and tell them stories about the Dragon babies.

Our Charity Table for Hope Center Indy was very successful and we will soon be presenting a check to them as soon as we get a final tally.  Thank you to everyone who purchased items from this table and/or made a monetary donation!
Many people lingered around our International/Ethnic Doll Challenge Table and then cast their ballot for the People's Choice award.  Our winner this year was Ann C.'s "Mac", a manly Scottish Highlander adapted from Sheryl D'Ath's Sam the Man pattern.  Great job Ann!
The Challenge dolls were judged at our November meeting by Carol Marlin, an Indianapolis fiber artist.  First place in the judging was a tie between Ann C.'s "Mac," and Katie's "Jewel".  Second went to Andrea's "Ann of Green Gables" and third went to Julie W.'s "Jasmine".  The Judge's Choice award also went to Ann C.'s "Mac".

Ann C.'s "Mac"
Katie's "Jewel"
Andrea's "Ann of Green Gables"
Julie W.'s "Jasmine"
Jude's German Folk Doll
Nita's Romanian Gypsy
Elena's Joker
A huge Thank You! goes out to all the members who made the show and sale a success and all who donated items for the charity table!

Several members created dolls for the International/Ethnic Doll Challenge.  They will be on display at the Holiday Art Fair and Art Doll Show.  Attendees to the Show will be able to vote for their favorite doll in the Challenge and the winner will be revealed at the end of the day.

While our our guest judge, Carol Marlin, was judging the Challenge Dolls, the business portion of our meeting was conducted. Plans for the Show and Sale were discussed.  Members will be setting up their tables Friday, November 22 from 2:30-5:00.  Donations for the charity table should be brought to the November 16th meeting so they can can get priced and tagged.  Thank you to Janet for bringing in the neat zipper pouches for the charity table.  We will have tables set up with dolls that have been made during this past year including the Patti Culea challenge dolls, Margot class dolls, owls, and AFICC class dolls.  All dolls for display should be tagged with the maker's name, doll's name and pattern maker or indicate if the pattern is an original by the maker.

International/Ethnic Challenge Dolls can still be entered for the Peoples' choice award. Please let Andrea know by November 21 if you are entering a doll.

Our spring 2020 doll making class will be taught by Kathryn Walmsley.  She will be teaching her "Triplets" either sitting or standing with wire armature.  We are also planning a fall 2020 class.  Our committee is in process of choosing an instructor for that class.

After the business meeting, Virginia, Katie, and Sue presented our program about putting hair on your doll.  Virginia demonstrated needle felting hair with yarn and talked about other fibers that could be needle felted.  Katie showed how to weft hair and apply it, Sue demonstrated how to make a wig cap and cut Tibetan lamb hair for a wig.  Great job ladies!  Very informative!
