May Meeting
ICD members present: Kathryn, Katie, Sue, Virginia, Nita, Ron, Ann R., Julie W., Julie G., Joan, Vickie and Andrea.
River City members present: Liz, Kathy, Holly, Brenda, Jeanie, Betty, Connie, Regina and guest Cody.
There was a total of twenty one doll makers present, twelve from Indy and nine from Cincinnati! This was a great turn out for our joint meeting held this year at Red Rose Jems Pizzeria in Cincinnati. The food was great. Thank you River City for hosting us this year! It was wonderful to have this get together with so many talented doll makers to share what we all had done over the past year. Andrea started off by giving a recap of the Indy club's activities and announced our challenge for next year to the River City Club to create a doll associated with a card from a Tarot deck.
Holly from River City then told us of their activities and shared samples from the dolls that their members had brought to show. They had made progressive dolls, flat faces, pipe cleaner dolls, bound books, had a natural materials challenge, and a carnival (mardi gras) challenge. They are planning for a new venue for their annual doll show.

River City had challenged us this year with Fantasy Face Pin Dolls. Each one that was exchanged was unique! Bring yours to the next meeting for show and tell! Holly passed out tickets to draw for grab bags. The contents were delightful! Thank you everyone for your participation. We look forward to next years meeting with River City!
Observing Felting Demonstration |
After the meeting we went to Silk Road Textiles just a few blocks away. Proprietor Teresa Owen greeted us and gave a demonstration of a felting process introducing some new products now on the market to make the process easier. Thank you, Teresa, for your hospitality! Your store is a fantastic place and one to definitely return to when in the Cincinnati area!

Reminders
A reminder that on July 20, Missi Gouty (from Threads of Time in Danville, IL), will present "The West was Won with Needle and Thread" at the Common Threads Quilt Guild of Central Indiana, which meets at the Mount Comfort United Methodist Church, 3179 N 600 W, Greenfield, IN. Her shop is having a Jelly Roll Challenge due the first weekend in November.
Another reminder: Indiana is celebrating its 200th year anniversary this year. Some of you might like to enter something in the State Fair to commemorate this historical event. There is an entry fee of $30 until June 30th. After July 1 the fee goes up to $50. Here is the link to the entry website: http://www.indianastatefair.com/state-fair/entry-information/indiana-arts-building/
Next Meeting
Our June meeting will be a charity doll sew-in. We will make Scribbles dolls to give to a local charity. Scribbles is a free cloth doll pattern by Cyndy Sieving that can be made for charity. The pattern can be found here. For each doll, bring 2 arms and 2 legs (sewn and turned), 2 head pieces (one with face), and 2 body pieces (cut out), stuffing, and hair. Sew and stuff the arms and legs. Sew the head pieces to the body pieces, but do not sew them together. We will do that at the meeting. We could use two sewing machines, so if you would like to bring yours, please let us know. If you'd like to make the ears, baste them to the head.
Scribble arms and legs |
Julie W. and Jude will be making some machine embroidered faces to share, so you could also bring some bodies without the face attached. You could also bring ribbons or fiber for hair, tools for embroidery, stuffing tools, etc.
