January 20, 2024 Meeting Minutes

Present for the January meeting were Julie G., Ann C., Jude, Katie, Joan, Mary, Julie W., and Andrea.  Joan was our nametag winner.

Show and Tell

Joan brought a really cute Tea bag that holds a tea cup and teas that she had made.  Very nice, Joan and what a great gift it would make.

Katie brought a pattern for a Julie McCullough doll "Sewphie the Stitcher" that she wants to make for the Julie McCullough open house in September.  Can't wait to see it, Katie!

January 20, 2024 Business
After Show and Tell we discussed the 2024 November Show and Sale.  We voted for the hours to be changed to 9-3.  Andrea has the room booked at the Irvington United Methodist Church.  Since this is the Chinese Year of the Dragon, we plan to have a display of our dragon dolls we have made.

The final vote for the 2024 Challenge was made and it will be "In the Woods"!

Amy Felske will be teaching our Spring Class April 27-28.  Jude shared information she had, and members may sign up.

We voted to make a donation to charity.  The chosen charity is Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis.  This is a girls' leadership program that helps "girls to meet the challenges and opportunities of the day."  It inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.  We are proud to help support this worthwhile charity.

Our September 21st meeting will be an open house at the Franklin Road Library branch honoring Julie McCullough.  She is a fantasy cloth doll and pattern maker.  You can see her patterns on her website "Magic Threads - Fantasy Cloth Dolls and Patterns by Julie McCullough".  Dollmakers Journey carries her patterns which can be purchased online.

Program

Andrea presented the January program on "Simple Scribble Faces".  It was a fun hands-on project in which she encouraged us all to draw several scribble faces based on some images she shared from Anne Keenan Higgins a wonderful artist with a whimsical illustration style. Click on the link for her website to see more of her work. Andrea prepared kits for us so we could end up with a finished pin. Thanks, Andrea, for the inspiration and fun program!
