Meeting Minutes
We had a great attendance at the July meeting.  Present were Katie, Nita, Martha, Ron, Julie G., Sandy,  Ann R., Leslie, Ann C., Vicki, Andrea, Virginia, Sue, Julie W., Jude, Joan, Elena, and Maggie.  Several members had to detour around road construction to get to the meeting.  So glad you all made it!  We were especially happy to see Sandy who came all the way from southern Indiana and we hadn't seen for awhile.  We've missed you Sandy and hope to see you again soon!

Show and Tell
Several members attended a recent retreat at Threads of Time in Danville, Illinois where they made some really cute Dastardly Owls from a pattern by Ann Wood.
Nita was one who attended and brought her owl as well as a wrap doll she made from pipe cleaners and a push mold face.  She also has been busy making some wonderful fiber jewelry.

Martha brought some pre-stuffed bendi muslin doll blanks to share with our members to make into dolls that could perhaps be used for our charity project this year.  Thanks Martha.  Can't wait to see what everyone does with these!

Julie G. shared her dastardly owl from the retreat.

Andrea shared that she finished her Belle doll from a pattern by Barbara Schoenoff.  She couldn't bring her because she had given her away!  Barbara's patterns can be purchased at Dollmaker's Journey.

Virginia has been busy with dolls for the Ohio State Fair.  We recently learned she won her first blue ribbon at the fair!  Congratulations, Virginia!  Great job!  She brought her Attic Mouse made at AFICC in a class with Colleen Colquhoun Athens using paper clay and cloth.   She also brought La Demoiselle de Fleur which she also made at AFICC in a class with Christine Shively-Benjamin.  Another item she brought was her horse doll made by Julie G.

Business Meeting
Katie had gotten bookmarks and business cards printed and passed those out to the membership for publicity.  Julie G. and Sue were going to ODACA and would take some to pass out. Signage and guidelines for the Show and Sale were discussed.  Katie continues to keep up our Facebook page with great posts about members and pictures of their work.  Members are encouraged to send her pictures to post. Thanks, Katie, for all the time and effort you put in to this!
Our Charity project will be a sale table at the Show and Sale with proceeds to be given to Hope Center Indy.  Items on the table will be made by the members.  Martha passed out her Bendi doll blanks that when finished would make great items for the table.  Katie will collect the finished dolls to prepare for display on the sale table at our November meeting prior to the sale.
Our Fall class with Sue Odell is coming soon on August 31-September 1.  There are still a few openings.  If you would like to attend please contact  one of the officers or email the club at
indyclothdollmakers@yahoo.com.  Workshop fee is $85 for Indy Cloth Dollmaker members and $100 for non-members. Deadline for registration is Aug. 15.

Our program was on how Patti Culea sculpts her doll heads.  It was definitely an informative program featuring an excerpt from Patti's Cloth Doll Making DVD available for purchase on Dollmaker's Journey.

Next Meeting
Our next meeting is Saturday, August 17.  Our program is on Patti Culea's methods of coloring the doll face.  Patti's dolls have beautiful faces and she generously shows others how she does this in videos available at Dollmaker's Journey.  If you would like to work along in the program you could bring the following:

Scrap of cotton 9"x7" and backed with freezer paper.

Scrap of fabric for blending the colors.

Margot Workshop

Margot Workshop
with Suellen Odell

Want to learn how to make a cloth Art Doll? Now’s your chance!! We have 5 last minute openings available in a 2 day workshop Aug 31 - Sept 1 in Indianapolis.
Meet Margo, doesn’t she look beautiful on her little tuffet? Think how lovely Margo would look in your home dressed in colors to match your decor. Margo is a cloth doll and is about 14 inches tall when sitting on her tuffet and 17 inches from head to toe. Indy Cloth Dollmakers Club is sponsoring a 2 day workshop so you can learn to make this doll. You will learn doll making techniques such as sculpting and drawing a doll face, using wool roving for hair, needle felting techniques and costume making. Instructions for making the tuffet are also included.
Sue Odell, prize winning doll artist from Cincinnati, will be teaching this 2 day hands-on workshop on Aug. 31 – Sept. 1 at the Irvington Public Library, 5625 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, IN. Workshop hours are from 9 AM to 5 PM each day. You must register in advance for this workshop. We want everyone to have a quality experience so space is limited. Workshop fee is $85 for Indy Cloth Dollmaker members and $100 for non-members. Deadline for registration is Aug. 15.
To register send email to Indyclothdollmakers@yahoo.com. Please include your name, workshop name, email address and phone number. When we receive your registration we will send you further instructions regarding payment, pattern and pre-workshop homework.
